tricks up her sleeve

Enough with the downer posts already! Here are a few fun things that Anna has been up to. She has a few new tricks up her sleeve and she's not shy about showing them off.

Anna is officially a crawler! She has been thinking about it for awhile now, but since we hardly have any normal floors right now (only a few more weeks, then we'll back to pre-flood condition!) she's hardly had the chance. Despite that fact, the last few weeks she's really taking off. I can't leave the room anymore because she can get wherever she wants. Luckily for me she hasn't figured out that she can leave a room yet though.

She's also gotten even better at looking cute! Especially when she says "Momma" (It may just be babble, but she's been doing it for a few months consistently now, so I'm going to count it!) ;)

Her new favorite thing is dancing. You can't tell from this picture, but she is really gettin her groove on to her favorite song, If We Were a Movie, by Hannah Montana. She used to like Billy Joel, but I guess her taste in music is already changing. I must admit, I can't get this song out of my head! It got me thinking though, if we were a movie, what movie would we be? I'll have to consider that one a little longer. Probably some teen movie since we dated in high school and had our share of HS drama. What movie would you be?

And here she is dancing again with Madde.

the streak continues...

It's almost funny now.
Yesterday morning when Dave left he found his car rolled back in front of our neighbor's drive way at a weird angle. Needless to say, that's not where he parked it the night before. Someone broke into his car and we think they tried to steal it. The bad news is: they stole an old radio that was Dave's grandpa's. (Probably not worth much in dollars, but worth so much in memories) The good news is: they didn't steal the car! And, since the car stereo had already been stolen out of his car a few years ago, there was nothing else left for them to steal!
Seriously this is just one more story to add to the Kelly summer drama of '07. Hopefully our luck changes with the season. :) It's just funny. Luckily all of this stuff doesn't really matter in the long run. We've got each other and our health and that's all we need!

A night in the ER

Just when I was ready to have a good nights sleep after all of the reunion business, I spent all of Sunday night/Monday morning in the ER! Around midnight I had the most painful feeling in the right side of my stomach. It didn't go away after a few minutes so I woke up Dave for a midnight doctor appt. He checked things out and felt around all my organs in the area while the pain got worse and worse. And then of course Anna wakes up! I get her back to sleep as I am crying in pain while Dave is thinking about his diagnosis. "It's either your appendix or your ovaries" I started to feel nauseated and after about an hour my personal doctor advised me that we should go to the ER. We packed up our sleeping baby and headed to the hospital. At first they just thought that I was pregnant even when I assured them I was not. After ruling that out, they took my blood to run some tests and gave me some morphine. (which didn't do much) Anna, who did not fall back asleep after she woke up to go in her car seat, found the hospital fascinating! She would not fall back asleep with so much to look at. Around 3:00 am they told us it wasn't my appendix and it was probably my ovaries so I would need an ultrasound. TWO HOURS later they came to get me for my ultrasound! Dave and Anna did not fare so well during these 2 hours of waiting. Anna was tired beyond control and Dave only had a folding chair to sit/nap in. They were troopers for coming along with me. The ultrasound made me a little nervous because she had to do 2 different kinds and then she wouldn't tell me anything because she said the doctor would come in and tell me what's going on. It turns out that I had an ovarian cyst rupture. Not a huge deal, just really painful. I guess when it ruptures the blood and fluid get into your abdominal cavity and that is what causes all of the pain. No surgery needed at least! They loaded me up with pain pills and sent me home around 6:00 am. We were a tired bunch, so we headed home to get some much needed rest. My mom was nice to come get Anna and watch her for us in the afternoon so we could finish resting. I've got lots of pain pills, but it really feels fine now. Kind of a random thing. It was nice to have Dave there knowing what to do and explaining to me what will probably happen next. I think he liked being able to diagnose me but the bad thing about having a husband in medicine is that you don't get much sympathy. They know you're going to be okay so it's just a matter of getting through it. Just a few worried looks would have been nice. :) I'm going to try hard not to rupture any more cysts for awhile though. It wasn't much fun and I'm ready to get back to "normal!"

Eagles Reunited

Saturday was finally the big 10-year reunion for Dave's class! I'm not going to say much because I feel like I have already spent too much time on this event. I think everything went well and it seemed like everyone had a great time. We ended up having a family picnic social at Sugarhouse Park where we just served drinks and desserts. Everyone just brought their own lunches. It was fun to see the cute '97er's offspring and significant others. We put sidewalk chalk out for the kids and it was a hit. By the time that was over and Dave and I cleaned up (yup, just me and Dave and Anna for the clean up crew) it was almost time to get set up for the dinner! We ran home, unloaded the car, changed our clothes, dropped off Anna, and headed up to the JCC for the dinner. The dinner was much more relaxing to me than the picnic. (I wouldn't do a family picnic again...too much chaos!) We had a social hour while we blasted some good ol' tunes from 1997 (mmmbop and gettin jiggy wit it are classics!) The food was much better than I expected (shout out to Utah Food Services!) and then we started a little program during dessert. One of Dave's good friends, Dave Feist helped out by being the MC for our '97 trivia and our class questions. He was funny and did a great job. Is he not the perfect person for that kind of stuff? We did a little raffle to help recoup some of the costs for us. (um, about $500! Scary!) Surprisingly, it did really well! We ended up with some great prizes (many thanks to friends' donations and local businesses) and so we got a lot of support from the class. We don't have the final bill from the caterer yet, but I think we are pretty darn close to breaking even. Phew!!! It was a fun day and needless to say, we are so glad it is over! The funny thing about High School reunions is that it seems like no matter where you went, or how old you are, it seems like they are always the same. You've got your standard group of drunk guys that show up and sit in the back yelling out stuff the whole night, then you've got your used-to-be-shy-and-quiet girl/boy that shows up knocking everyone out, and then of course you've got the used-to-be-pretty-but-is-now-kinda-trashy girl too. Insert any other stereotype here. It's kinda funny how it works. It was fun to chat with old friends and get to know some new ones. We were lucky to have a great group of friends in high school and it was fun that Dave and I were there together. I'm just glad we have another 10 years before we have to do it again!

Swinging!

On Saturday after a yummy breakfast with some friends at Eggs in the City, we decided to stop at a park on the way home. We thought it was time for Anna to have a go on her first big girl (baby) swing. Once she was all buckled in and Dave gave her a big push, her eyes lit up and the biggest giggle of all time came out! She was so excited! I don't think I've ever heard her laugh so hard before. It was so fun. She just laughed and laughed and I just tried to soak up every minute of it. Since we went there on a whim, we didn't have a camera with us, so we didn't capture the first moments. But we live nearby the park, so Dave ran home to grab the camera to document this "first" for Anna. Each one of her "firsts" just get better and better!

Madde and Anna

Madde is our little next door neighbor and she adores Anna. She comes over almost every day and hangs out because she's bored and her mom isn't home very much. Since she's been a part of the family lately, I thought I'd post some pictures. We took Anna out for a stroll last Friday and went and got SnoShacks. (I'm glad Madde likes them as much as I do!) We ate them at the elementary school while she gave me the scoop on the 6th grade drama. All I can say is that I'm glad that there was no such thing as "texting" when I was in school! We'll see how often she comes around in 2 weeks once she's a big-time Junior High girl!

so lucky

Not a day goes by where I don't feel so lucky to have this little girl in my life. I just love her so much!

Where did it go?

They warned me that it might happen, but I didn't think it would happen to me. I've officially lost it. Something that goes along with being a mom. Wait, what was I saying? Oh ya, I've lost my brain! Seriously what's going on? I can't remember anything anymore. It's funny at times, but it could potentially be dangerous! Like when I put cookies in the oven and then forget and they get burned to a crisp. I even set the timer, so that didn't even help. That's all we'd need a flood and then a fire! From leaving my sunglasses at the salon, and misplacing many other things along the way, to putting face wash in my hair instead of gel, I'm beginning to worry about myself. Does anyone else have this problem? You would naturally think that I'm losing my brain because I only work part-time now and I'm not using it as much...FALSE! I feel like I use my brain more now than ever before! There's a lot of calculating, multi-tasking, and strategy involved in being a mom. Is this what is using all my brain power? Don't get me wrong, it's totally worth it, but I'm beginning to worry about the safety of my family. Like I'll forget to pick up Anna from soccer or dance or something. Maybe it's the worrying that's causing it. Who knows. Anyway, I've lost my brain and I'm really trying hard to remember where I was when I had it last. Any guidance would be appreciated. Now back to whatever it was that I was doing before this. (Seriously, what was I doing? I started this, and then Anna wanted out of her excersaucer, diaper change, phone call, and then the floor guy came over, and then this, hmmm. oh well. Hopefully it wasn't important!)

for your eyes only...

So I've decided to go private. Yup. Starting to get a little freaked out about having so much of our life open on the world wide web, so I'm going to switch my blog to private. Plus I agree with my SIL Kara's thoughts about one day teaching my kids about Internet safety and practicing what I preach. This creates quite the dilemma however because I really love being in touch with so many people and stumbling upon old friends and meeting new ones. So here's the deal: I have to send you an invitation to view my blog, but I'm really not in to exclusive cliques, so if you're a long lost friend, or a friend-of-a-friend-of-a-friend, and have just been too shy to say Hi, that's okay. Just give me your email address and your welcome on my blog! (Just no pervs or stalkers allowed!) And now that I think about it, there's probably a lot of email addresses that I don't have. So either post your email in a comment or send it to me at: ashleybkelly
@hotmail.com. I hope I don't lose touch with you by going private, but I think I need to do it. Sorry.
